Do longer eyelashes really make things cuter? In Sasami’s case, the answer would be a definite yes. Sasami: Magical girls Club is a new take on an old favorite alternate story from the famed Tenchi Muyo series. The story follows Sasami Iwakura, an energetic fifth grader with a joyful heart and the most adorable pigtails this side of Sailor Moon. Awakened to magical powers within her, she meets other girls at her school with similar inclinations toward magic and they form their own club, so to speak. The girls are trained to use their powers by, none other than, Washu (everyone’s favorite half-pint mad scientist from the original Tenchi story) and her associate Daimon. Season two kicks off at episode fourteen, and things begin to become a little heavier for our five adorable would-be witches. It all begins with a seemingly harmless invitation from the Chief Sorceress to attend her special summer-long magical girl camp. Only Sasami’s team and one other from the previous magical girl contest were chosen for this special training. However, Washu and Daimon have apprehensions about this, and it soon becomes clear that the Chief Sorceress and other executive witches have something up their sleeves. But timid Misao is beginning to buy into the witches’ propaganda and begins to question everything, right down to Sasami’s differing viewpoint on the carelessness of humans.
