Over the course of his time in Hollywood, actor Justin Hartley has experienced his share of love and heartbreak. He ended his marriage to Lindsay Korman-Hartley in 2012 and split from second wife Chrishell Stause in 2019. The Tracker star also shares a 19-year-old daughter, Isabella Hartley, with ex-wife Lindsay.
Justin quietly married Sofia Pernas in 2021, but she and the This Is Us alum first met back in 2015. While their romantic relationship took time to build, Justin and Sofia are happier than ever. On February 7, People released an interview with Justin where he shared a rare update into his personal life.
Keep reading for the full timeline of Justin and Sofia's relationship, from their on-set meeting to her upcoming appearance on Justin's new CBS show, Tracker.
April 2015: Sofia meets Justin on the set of The Young and the Restless.
From 2014 to 2016, Justin portrayed Adam Newman and Gabriel Bingham on the longtime soap opera. In 2015, Sofia joined the cast as Marisa Sierras, Justin’s on-screen girlfriend. The two worked together for a year until the actor departed.
At the time, Chrishell was also on The Young and the Restless. While starring on the show, she and Justin announced their engagement in July 2016.
May 2020: Sofia and Justin are first spotted together in the spring.
Roughly half a year after news broke that Justin and Chrishell were splitting up, Sofia and the This Is Us star were photographed outside of a Los Angeles doctor’s office. According to TMZ, Sofia appeared to have dropped off the 43-year-old actor and later picked him up. The former costars were caught sharing a kiss.
A week later, People reported that they “had been dating for several weeks" and were “spending a lot of time at his house.” There was also some context given about that particular pic that began sparking rumors.
"She was very much a doting girlfriend. She dropped him off in the morning and returned to pick him up a few hours later," a source told the outlet. "She helped him into the car and had a cold drink for him. They returned to his house and were there the whole weekend together."
August 2020: Sofia and Justin appear to confirm their relationship on Instagram.
Around the time of Selling Sunset’s season 3 premiere, it seemed like the couple was spending time together.
On August 9, Sofia posted a photo on her Instagram Stories of a man, who many assume is Justin, holding a cigar and a drink. She captioned it: “Easy like Sunday mornin.’”
Later that day, Justin also shared a pic of himself on Instagram Stories. He was seen hanging out in a pool while holding a dog. He wrote a similar caption: “Paisley like Sunday mornin.’”
January 2021: Sofia and Justin become Instagram official after celebrating New Year’s together.
After months of speculation, Justin posted a photo on Instagram of him and Sofia ringing in 2021. He wrote: “Last minutes of 2020 here in LA. Bring on 2021! Happy New Year!”
Shortly after, the actress posted a different photo on her own Instagram page, sharing that she was quarantining with the TIU star. “Sayonara 2020, it’s been real,” she captioned it. “Happy New Year from our quarantine den to yours ❤️.”
Fans were quick to comment on both photos with many voicing their support for the new couple.
May 2021: Sofia and Justin attend the MTV Movie & TV Awards.
But that's not all. Us Weekly reported that while walking the red carpet at the event, Justin and Sofia were spotted wearing matching rings on that finger. You can see Justin's band in the photo below, and in a photo obtained by Us Weekly, Sofia also appears to be wearing a diamond band.
Needless to say, the internet speculated that the two tied the knot in secret (though neither Sofia nor Justin confirmed it at the time).
May 2021: Sofia and Justin reveal they're married.
At the same time the couple started wearing rings at public events, Entertainment Weekly broke the news that Sofia and Justin reportedly tied the knot in a private ceremony. According to the outlet, a source shared the two married "a short period of time" before the MTV Movie and TV Awards, saying, "the couple had an instant chemistry and early on discussed marriage."
Although the couple didn't make an announcement on social media, Justin did share a first look at their marriage a few weeks later on Instagram. "This is how we Monday," he affectionately captioned a selfie with Sofia in June 2021.
December 2021: Justin confirms his wedding to Sofia and talks about their marriage.
In a cover story for Haute Living, the actor not only confirmed he was off the market, but gave more insight into how he felt about Sofia after they worked together on The Young and the Restless. While he didn't intend on seeing her as more than a cast mate, he felt that their love all came down to divine timing.
"We didn’t work together that closely, and we didn’t work together that long. I knew that she was very kind and very nice. I liked being around her," he told the publication at the time. "But I was in a different place in my life. I wasn’t available. Timing has a lot to do with that. I’m very lucky to not only have found 'the one,' but I found her when she was available and the timing was right."
What's more, Justin couldn't help but express how effortless he felt his marriage was. "It’s incredible when you’re not forcing things," he added. "It doesn’t have to be that hard … When I re-met her, I just knew. It’s so interesting about the human heart and human mind. It’s not a codependency — I’m just at peace with myself. I feel loved and I feel appreciated. I know she feels the same way.”
March 2022: Sofia and Justin wear matching outfits at the Critics Choice Awards.
Just weeks shy of their first wedding anniversary, the couple decided to match one another in identical black suits while attending the 2022 Critics Choice Awards. Justin was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for This Is Us, and he later shared a photo on Instagram celebrating their dapper date night on Instagram.
"Wonderful night out last night. Thank you @criticschoice for the nomination. Good to see everyone out and about."
April 2022: Sofia talks about being a step-mom to Justin's daughter, Isabella.
As Justin and his daughter Isabella are particularly close, it only makes sense for Sofia to develop her own relationship with Isabella as well. When speaking to Page Six about her step-daughter, Sofia couldn't help but share high praise for Isabella.
"She's so wise. I mean, that girl, she’s got it figured out!" she told the outlet. "She knows exactly what she wants. She has a beautiful, wonderful boyfriend. I don’t want to say too much about it because she’s like, ‘Ahh!’ but they’re awesome.”
May 2023: Sofia and Justin attend the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
Another date night for the fabulous couple! This time, Justin and Sofia got all glammed up to attend the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner. They posed on the red carpet and took in the event with The Creative Coalition organization.
"Whoa. Had an incredible weekend in DC visiting the White House and advocating for the arts with a delightful group of people," Sofia wrote on Instagram. "Thank you to @thecreativecoalition for fighting the good fight and making all this magic happen! 🪄."
January 2024: Sofia and Justin attend the 2024 Golden Globes.
Just one month ahead of the premiere of Justin's new series Tracker, he and Sofia showed off their love by attending the 2024 Golden Globes. As Justin wore a tan-colored suit, Sofia dazzled in a bejeweled gown for one of Hollywood's biggest nights. What's more, the duo managed to find themselves seated next to one of the ceremony's nominees.
"Wow. What a night!!! Had the greatest time with my sweet man. (Go @trackercbs)!!" Sofia raved on Instagram. "Helluva party, and we lucked out with a fabulous table mate in Elle Fanning. 💁🏽♀️."
February 2024: Justin gives rare insight into his marriage to Sofia.
When Justin opened up to People about life at home with his wife, he couldn't stop gushing about what exactly makes him love being married to her. "I just like looking at her," he told the outlet. "We talk about everything. We talk about things that are going on in the world. We talk politics, we talk about family, friends. We love the Dodgers — I got her to like the Dodgers!"
Apparently, the two "do everything together." So much so that, as People reports, Sofia will appear on an upcoming episode of Tracker — as a nemesis of her husband’s character, according to CBS.
